This award-winning film has earned the wrath of the Catholic Church. Set in Ireland during the 1960s, it takes a look at the ''Magdalene Laundries'', where allegedly wayward young women were locked away without trial. They were made to work seven days a week doing laundry. More than 30,000 young women went through these places, which persisted until 1996. This film is about four of these woman, locked away for their sins in the eyes of the church, and their attempts to survive the cruel conditions there.
