The Sunshine State refers to Florida, in the USA, parts of which are still divided on racial grounds. This movie takes a look at two different women from two very different communities. One is returning home, after being kicked out as a pregnant teenager, and trying to reconcile with her mother. The other is running her dad's hotel on the beachfront, while having a fling and fending off would-be developers.
