Far From Heaven
Set around 1957 in a small American town, we meet the ''typical''
American family of the time -- mom, pop and two kids. However,
all is not as apple pie as it seems... mom discovers to her
horror that pop is not entirely straight, while at the same
time, she finds herself drawn to the family gardener, an
educated black. Both of these scandals are set to disrupt
the family and their community.107 minutes, No persons under 10. Drama, Romance, On the Art Circuit. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

| Ian Douglas: I felt this partially retread ground recently explored in Unfaithful, which is why my rating is not as high as some of the others. It is a well-made film, with Julianne Moore looking decidely frumpy as a 1950s housewife. Her performance is good, deserving its Oscar nomination. The film is ambitious in tackling three delicate issues at the same time... marital infidelity, homosexuality, and racism. It explores why society may look more favourably on breaking one of these social taboos but not another. As I said for Unfaithful, it may bore the teens, but they should see it nevertheless... |
