Apocalypse Now Redux
One of the most powerful war movies ever made is re-released
in a new ''director's cut'', bigger and longer (note the
running time). Set during the American invasion of Vietnam, the story follows a young army officer sent to
''terminate with extreme prejudice'' an older colonel who
has gone out of control, and is running his own little empire
up the river. We follow him through various incidents until
he reaches the colonel, who is not quite what he had expected.
The film comes in at number 31 on the IMDB Top 250 Chart.199 minutes, No persons under 16 (Language, Nudity, Violence). Action, Drama, War. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

| Ian Douglas: Well, it sure is long... there is even a short intermission. Visually stunning, even after 20 years. The story is not pleasant, and is unlikely to appeal to female viewers. It shows the horrors of war, especially the war in Vietnam. In some ways, it even answers the question that Americans kept asking after 11 September, ie "Why do they hate us?" In spite of my reservations above, I cannot ignore the artistry that went into the making of this movie, and the issues it tackled, and it is easy to see why it is rated as one of the top movies of all time. Try to sit in the middle of the theatre, and pick a cinema with a decent surround-sound system. |
