Punch Drunk Love
More of a romantic drama than romantic comedy, our hero is
a businessman with an anger management problem. He is also
cursed with seven sisters, who give him a difficult time. One
day, he meets a female friend of one of his sisters, and they
end up on a date. As he falls in love with her, he has to deal
with a phone sex company who decided to blackmail him. So we
have a love story inside a pressure cooker, and sooner or later,
something's gonna blow...94 minutes, No persons under 16 (Language, Violence). Comedy, Drama, Romance. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

| Ian Douglas: Mmm.. was not sure what to make of this when I left the cinema. It's a kinda offbeat romantic drama. Sandler has won lots of praise for his portrayal in this movie, though why people expected him to do slapstick when there is none in the script, I don't know. Watson reprises her role from Angela's Ashes in some ways, falling in love with a man with serious deficiencies. Director Anderson takes David Lean's advice to heart: if you want to shock your audience, first bore them to tears. There are quite a few (violent) shocks in this movie. In the end, I left feeling unfullfilled for some reason... and I'm not sure why. Perhaps film characters who lie to people they want to impress turns me off, since this is silly shortsighted behaviour. I've followed the unwritten Critics Rule: when you don't know what rating to give a movie, give it an Average... YMMV :-) |
