Bend It Like Beckham
In this cultural clash, our heroine is a young Indian girl
living in England. She secretly plays soccer for a local team,
while her mother is more interested in grooming her for a suitable
marriage. Her activities first ruin her sister's upcoming marriage, then
her friend's mom thinks they are lesbians, and there is competition for the
love interest. In some ways, an "East is East" version of "Billy Elliot".110 minutes, Parental Guidance. Comedy.

Ian Douglas: Well, it's not Bridgit Jones, but I enjoyed this more than
East is East. This time it is the Sikh community which is ripped off, serving as a
backdrop to a teen romantic comedy. Teenagers should enjoy it, they should drag their parents along as well if possible, for
a look at the problems in a multicultural society not all that different from our own. A feel-good girlie movie. There is not
much humour in the first half, but it picks up after half time.
