The Count of Monte Cristo

Mmm and how much are you worth if I marry you?... Another remake of the famous Alexandre Dumas novel, with great production values. The storyline has a young, ambitious sailor making a success of his life. His best friend, idle and rich, is jealous of him, and has him arrested and imprisoned on false charges. While spending 13 years in jail, the sailor educates himself and plots his revenge. Upon his release, he works his way into the upper ends of French society, as the titular Count.

131 minutes, No persons under 10 (Violence).
Action, Drama, Thriller.

The Moviesite Fan Club comments
Ian Douglas: I see it has mixed reviews from the overseas press... I was new to the story and found it quite watchable. The action sequences are a bit fast, almost as if the director is fluffing them. There are some holes or troublesome issues in the plot, but no worse than any thing else coming out of Hollywood. Presumably they are handled better in the book. Guy Pearce does give a somewhat cliched villian performance, but it works okay. The story has been filmed many times, I guess the revenge emotion strikes a deep chord with cinemagoers.
