Spider-Man

In this eagerly-anticipated adaptation of the comic-book series, our hero is an orphaned student, working as a photographer. One day, he is bitten by a genetically-altered spider, and soon realises that he now has some special spider-like powers. When a criminal kills someone close to him, he decides to use his new powers to fight crime. Around the same time, his best pal's dad has been affected by an experimental formula, and gone slightly nutty, turning to a life of crime. The scene is set for showdown...

Ian Douglas: The film did a storm at the US box office and is set to do the same here. It is a deliberate crowd-pleaser. They made a few changes from the comic book, but it is in general a pretty good adaptation. Spectacular stunts and spider-flying sequences. The plot has a few holes in, but what the heck, it's from a comic. A pleasant evening's entertainment.
