Our hero is a gambler, up to his neck in debt. A friend offers to lend him some money, on condition that he coaches an inner-city baseball team. Naturally the team starts out as a bunch of losers, but, under his guidance, develop into winners. There is a love interest in the form of a female teacher, while the kids expose the harsh realities of their lives.
