O
Shakespeare hits the new millenium in this teen-friendly
update to Othello. In essence a devious tale of "eliminate my enemies
so that daddy will notice me", in which a basketball
coach's son aims to eliminate the star player, who happens to be the only black
in the school. Daddy seems
to prefer the black star to his own son, which causes him to set his plan in
motion, using friends as mere pawns in a game which turns increasingly violent.
He manages to use his jealousy to arouse similar feelings amongst the others, pushing
them into drastic action.
95 minutes, No persons under 16 (Violence). Drama, Romance. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: Well, I didn't know the story beforehand, but can now see why it is such a popular Shakespeare piece. It is
beautifully plotted, with complex characters. The transposition to the modern era works well, and while not as crowd-pleasing
as Ten Things I Hate About You (tragedy as opposed to rom-com), it is easily as well done.
