Ian Douglas: A very noisy movie. The storyline was not particularly gripping and two hours of people shooting at each
other is more than enough. At times it reminded me of an old Western, where it is Major Drama when one of the (white) cowboys/settlers
dies, but a non-event when dozens of enemies (Indians, Blacks) drop like flies. Teenage boys will no doubt love it :-)
Laetitia Loubser: I am still crying my eyes out...For many reasons: It is a true story- real people and real hurt. I saw AFRICA coming alive. Many people - all over Africa (SA included) have suffered at the hands of barbaric murderers who hide behind survival and woman and children. Not even the mighty US could beat uncivilized Africa. An excellent movie that I hope wins Oscars for bringing the truth to us... in the next worst way next to being there ourselves. Andreas Lupp (20): The only real criticism I could find to give this film was the screenplay. Unfortunately it ends in the well known patriotic speeches which put a dampener on the quality of the film. However it is the first film since Platoon that accurately depicts war from the soldier's perspective. Unlike the Rambo-like antics of "Saving Private Ryan" and "Pearl Harbour" one finds the anonymity of the soldier. It shows the fact that one soldier can not save the entire war, but that even though the carnage may seem important to the soldier, it is insignificant to the conflict as a whole. Although it exhibits stunning photography and probably one of the most realistic war sets ever it will probably not be a crowd pleaser as it lacks a central hero character!
Bradley Lang (28): Enjoyable. The history being portrayed in the movie was very interesting. As non-USA, we are not always aware of the reasons why the USA help other countries. A longish movie with a lot of combat, honour and bravery. |
