The Man Who Wasn't There

I'm all set to remake Casablanca.... In this moody period drama, the focus of attention is on a humble barber. He suspects his wife is having an affair, and when he suddenly needs cash for a business opportunity, the idea of blackmail pops up. However, one thing leads to another, and soon he has a murder to sort out. From then on, the plot takes unexpected turns as poetic justice is dished out to all the unethical characters in the story. Note that the film is in black and white.

115 minutes, No persons under 13 (Violence).
Crime, Drama, On the Art Circuit.

The Moviesite Fan Club comments
Ian Douglas: During and after this film, I was wondering what score I would give, and what I would say. I found the black-and-white cinematography appropriate and at times stunning and moody. The storyline avoids all clichés and continually surprises. However it somehow never reaches any great dramatic or emotional heights, at least for me. I think it is worth seeing, especially for art movie lovers.
