Devils on the Doorstep
This Chinese film is set towards the end of World War II, in a part of China under Japanese invasion.
One night, a stranger leaves a Japanese soldier and a Chinese interpreter with a local villager, telling him to
look after them. The villagers keep the two hidden from the rest of the Japanese, while trying to figure out
what to do with them. The Japanese soldier demands to be executed, but his interpreter deliberately mistranslates
to keep them alive. Over time an understanding develops between the captives and their captors...In Japanese and Mandarin with English subtitles. The film is in both colour and monochrome. 135 minutes, No persons under 16 (Language, Violence, Prejudice). Comedy, Drama, War.
