Hedwig & The Angry Inch

In this decidely-offbeat musical, we follow the adventures of a transvestite singer, who, as a result of a bad sex-change operation was left with just an ''angry inch'' between his legs. He strives for the same stardom accorded to his successful former gay lover and protégé. Our hero grew up in East Berlin, when it was still a divided city. He had an unhappy childhood, and grew up confused about his sexuality. He jumped at the opportunity when a U.S. serviceman offered to marry him and get him out of the country, if he had a sex-change operation. He eventually ended up alone and penniless in the U.S. midwest, where he met the next man in his life, who became his musical collaborator. After they split up, the lover became a big star and started playing in front of arena crowds, while our poor hero and his band continued to toil in small clubs and bars. The film picks up where he starts shadowing his former lover on his U.S. tour, determined to get what he believes to be rightfully his - a piece of the big time.
