A look at part of the life of Louis XVI of France, also known as the Sun King. He had a partnership with his choreographer and court musician, an Italian whose slightly-more-than-Platonic devotion towards his ruler verged on idol worship. The stresses of Louis' absolute power soon reveal both men to be equally vulnerable and cruel under pressure. But the choreographer had convinced himself that the king needs him just as much as he needs the king -- which turns out to be a tragic self-deception.
