Enemy at the Gates
Based on a true story which took place during the German
attack on Stalingrad in World War II, we follow the adventures
of a simple ex-shepherd who is a crack marksman. Morale amongst
the Russians was at an all-time low, when a propaganda officer
stumbled across the marksman and decided to turn him into a hero
as a motivational tool. The shepherd merely did his job, in awe
of the legend built up around him. After knocking off too many
Germans, the Nazis shipped in a crack marksman of their own to
take care of him. To make matters more complicated, the shepherd
and the propaganda officer both fall in love with the same woman...131 minutes, No persons under 16 (Violence). Drama, Male conflict & bonding, Romance, Thriller, War. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: The North American critics were not kind to this movie, the British reviews which I read were much more flattering. I was impressed with the attention to detail and level of realism, this film brought over the horror of war much more powerfully than say, Pearl Harbor did. It was a little slow, the trailer lead me to believe the pace would be quicker. As in Pearl Harbor, there is a love triangle, but thankfully there is no ''Ra-Ra America'' (or Russia or Germany), only desperate men doing desperate things to survive.
