A sweeping true historical epic set at the dawn of the Chinese empire. The King is set upon uniting China, and his lover since childhood helps him with this plan, believing that unity will strengthen China against the enemies surrounding them. They concoct a plot to have an assassination attempt against the Emperor, to provide justification for attacking a neighbour. However, as the Emperor becomes increasingly despotic, his lover finds her herself drawn more and more to the hired assassin. The film has won international awards. Mandarin with English subtitles.
