Girlfight
A troubled teenage girl decides to take up boxing as a way
to get rid of her pent-up frustrations. Since daddy would not
approve, she has to steal the money to pay for the lessons, and
attend behind his back. Once she gains some proficiency,
she discovers that there is a shortage of female opponents.
Luckily, the boxing rules are changing, allowing women to box
against men. This sets up the climax, where she has to choose
between love, her career, and her integrity. The film was a
favourite at the Sundance Festival.109 minutes, No persons under 10 (Language). Drama, Female interest. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: Initially this plays out like a updated female ''Karate Kid'' remake, until right near the end, when it presents the heroine -- and the viewer -- with a modern moral dilemma. This movie can provide great material for Guidance Class discussions in school as it explore our acceptanced gender roles both in society and in a romantic relationship. It's easy to see why it was such a winner at Sundance.
