X-Men

  • Just testing the latest hair implant technology...

The latest and possibly the best comic book adaptation to arrive. The X-Men is the best selling comic series of all time. The film version diverts slightly from the series, using an amalgam of characters. The plot involves two groups of mutant humans who are seeking to change society in very different ways, who by the nature of their quest must eventually deal with each other. Each mutant in the group possesses special powers to aid them in the struggle. According to reviews, the film offers great depth for adult audiences, way beyond the FX-laden action designed for the teenagers.

Ian Douglas: As a comic book adaptation, the film is excellent, with some great special effects. If it were NOT a comic book adaptation, it would all be rather silly, and, as Violet says, ''very average''.

Dion Scher (26): Very cool movie for the comic lovers. I like the way the director has kept the mood hard-core and not decended into kiddie idiocy. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Bheki Madide (20): Scarying but a very high tech movie.

Shaun Myburg (21): At last a super-hero movie that Marvel comic fans can be proud of!! DC scored big with Batman, and after many failed attempts Marvel come good with their trump card X-Men. This is a darker, SFX packed film which carries a strong cast, brilliant story-line and a huge merchandising label. Focusing on Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Rogue (Anna Paquin), non X-men fans will be showed how it all began, whilst die-hard fans may be dissapointed by the lack of characters (ie Gambit & Beast). Expect this one to top the Box-office for a couple of weeks! Go see it!!!

Paresh Bhima (25): Brilliant special effects and good action sequences.

Paul Bester (22): Excellent special effects and story line. The movie was exactly like the comic book and brought the characters to life like no other movie about comics accomplished.
