Hamlet (2000)
Yet another version of Shakespeare's classic tale, brought
right up to date with a modern corporate setting. For those
who don't know the story, Hamlet is the son of the head of
Denmark. Daddy dies under mysterious circumstances, and
daddy's brother takes over everything, including Hamlet's mother.
Hamlet learns his father was murdered, and begins his investigations,
feigning madness as a cover. This cause problems in his love
life. Being a tragedy, expect a lot of deaths...111 minutes, No persons under 10 (Violence). Drama. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: Very modern and up to date. Lots missing from the script, including the grave diggers. I like Mel Gibson's version, which played as a black comedy, as that is how I interpreted the original. This version is dark, played as a thriller. The writers went to creative lengths to find ways around some of the tricky-to-modernise bits, and generally succeeded. Some holes in the plot (R + G's letter), but in general, this version should be more accessible to a younger audience, if they can tolerate the wordiness.
