The Children of the Century
A look at part of the life of the famous French writer, George
Sand. She was a woman who thought she would have greater
credibility if her readers thought she was a man, hence the
nom-de-plume. She took it further, preferring to wear men's
clothes as well. We pick up the story as she leaves her husband
and hooks up with a younger man, who is far more interested
in visiting brothels and using opium when he can. They take
a trip to Italy, which provides the crucial turing point in
their relationship.French with English subtitles. We regret the lack of foreign ratings. 135 minutes. Drama, Romance, Sex, On the Art Circuit. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: Even though the actors worked hard, I found the storyline -- such as it was -- tedious and repetitive: how many times must a lover prefer the brothels before a woman dumps him? And so I left... Others in the audience enjoyed it, so it is a matter of taste. It may appeal more to women.
