The Children of the Century

Ah, the charms of a rich, older woman... A look at part of the life of the famous French writer, George Sand. She was a woman who thought she would have greater credibility if her readers thought she was a man, hence the nom-de-plume. She took it further, preferring to wear men's clothes as well. We pick up the story as she leaves her husband and hooks up with a younger man, who is far more interested in visiting brothels and using opium when he can. They take a trip to Italy, which provides the crucial turing point in their relationship.
French with English subtitles. We regret the lack of foreign ratings.

The Moviesite Fan Club comments

Ian Douglas: Even though the actors worked hard, I found the storyline -- such as it was -- tedious and repetitive: how many times must a lover prefer the brothels before a woman dumps him? And so I left... Others in the audience enjoyed it, so it is a matter of taste. It may appeal more to women.
