Snow Falling on CedarsSet around World War II, this love-story-cum-trial-story is about the murder of a fisherman farmer. The prime suspect is his friend, a Japanese man, who grew up in the area and is well known. Anti-Japanese sentiments were still running high after the war, even though the man in question had fought in the American army. Complicating matters is that his Japanese wife was the long-time best friend and lover of an Anglo man, himself bitter that he was never allowed to marry the Japanese woman.126 minutes. Drama, Romance. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: Absolutely gorgeous cinematography, set for Oscar glory. The story is a kinda romeo-and-juliet-and-merchant-of-venice combination. The look at the American treatment of the Japanese Americans was interesting. At times, it seemed they were drawing parallels between how they treated the Japs and how the Nazi's treated the Jews. They then go on to say, well, okay, we locked them up, but look at the nice accomodation and facilites we gave them, and at least we didn't gas them.... This film is on the art circuit, which is a pity as it *should* be seen by teenagers.
