A woman discovers she is pregnant after a night of drunken passion with her gay friend, and decides to have the baby, which they raise as a married couple. Things go well until mommy meets and falls in love with a good-looking guy, and then the mushy stuff hits the fan, ending up as a child custody battle in court.
Ian Douglas: Great premise, poor execution. The dialogue in places had me wanting to groan out loud. There are one or two witty throw-away one liners, but they are few and far between. The attempts at visual comedy (read: slapstick) fall flat, at least with the (full, adult) preview audience. So labelling this a ''comedy'' is misleading. Everett's attempts at sorrow and heartbreak fail to convince, and Madonna spends the whole movie as a sulky bitch. The director had me worried a few times, when intersplicing cuts in a scene which were obviously shot at different times, in different lighting conditions, and even slightly different locations. The film also feels longer than it actually is. This is the ''American Pie'' movie, but the full version only plays over the final credits, a la Titanic.
