Sweet and Lowdown
Woody Allen's dramamentary about a (fictional) jazz guitarist
of the 1930s. Frustrated at always being number two behind
Django Reinhardt, he leads a life of partying and sex, always
hustling to make some money. Dropping his mute lover and wedding
a trophy wife didn't help, and eventually he just dropped
out of sight, leaving a mystery. While technically talented,
he just did not have what it takes to be a major star.95 minutes, Parental Guidance. Comedy, Drama, Romance, On the Art Circuit. You can usually find additional (copyrighted) pictures, trailers, etc, on the Official Site. |

Ian Douglas: OK, I thought it was a genuine documentary about a real person. I was suckered, as was everyone else in the preview audience. In that sense, it was well done. Emmet, however, comes across as a talented, vain and unpleasant peacock. I suppose if you are a jazz fanatic you will appreciate the music. Good performances.
