''The Beach'' is a (kinda) secret beach on an island in Thailand, where a modern-day hippie commune has established itself. Our hero, the girl he has the hots for, and her boyfriend, gatecrash into the place and are allowed to stay. They pass the days smoking dope, fishing, sleeping, swimming, and so on. However their continued existence depends on the location remaining secret, and when four new arrivals want to join, things come to a head. Is paradise really paradise?
