Mystery, Alaska

It's just a jump to the left... In Mystery, Alaska, the inhabitants are born with ice skates on and improve from there. The greatest honour in the town is to be selected to play in the weekly ice hockey game. Things get exciting when the town is featured in a sports magazine, and then a top pro team from New York is invited to take them on on their home turf. Can the local boys match up to the tough city slickers?

The Moviesite Fan Club comments

Ian Douglas: this film is more likely to appeal to the Americans and Canadians than South Africans, given our almost total ignorance of the finer points of ice hockey. Don't be misled by the poster, the film is about ice hockey, not bonking in an igloo.

Shaun Myburg (21): This is basically "The Mighty Ducks" for grown-ups, nothing really surprising about it, but still good enough to spend your R18 on. Great performances by the ageing Burt Reynolds and the brilliant Russell Crowe. I just don't see this appealing to a wide enough audience though, especially when opening against Joan Of Arc.

Bill Jones (30): Excellent hockey movie with a very nice story line.
