Set against the election campaign to decide who will govern newly independent Northern Ireland. A newspaper columnist doesn't take his responsibilities very seriously: he drinks too much and is gradually alienating his wife. One afternoon, drinking in a park, he stumbles across an attractive young girl and winds up in bed with her. Next morning, he returns to her apartment to find her dying from gunshot wounds: her final words, ''Divorcing Jack'', prove to be a vital clue to her murderer. What he didn't know was that she was the daughter of a politician. He finds himself wanted for the murder, and on the run.
