One True Thing
A woman resents going home to take care of her cancer stricken mother and distant father, who believes that a
woman's place should be in the home even if they are aware of the fact that she has other talents. She has
spent her life attempting to gain recognition from her literary genius father, whom she idolizes. This film is more than just a
10-hanky tearjerker, it relates to something we know: The reality of growing up to find the
black-and-white images of your parents that have lined your brain since birth are just like old photographs
-- simple, outdated and overlooked -- until you can see them for the individuals they are, and not as the
transparent beings who raised you. And that single truth is about as humbling as they come.
