Postman Blues
A Japanese film which is supposed to be a comedy but maybe the Japanese sense of humour is different to ours.
I did laugh a few times but it is more complex than a comedy, at times feeling like Laurel and Hardy slapstick
and at others, reminding me stylistically of The Replacement Killers. The story is about a mostly-innocent
postman, who meets an old school friend who happens to be a gangster. Later he meets a professional hit man.
Naturally the cops see all this and begin to suspect the poor postman of terrible crimes. In the mean time, he
falls in love with a young woman dying of cancer. All these things come together in the heart-wrenching ending.
Definitely for the art crowd only. Japanese with English subtitles. 110 minutes, No persons under 10. Crime, Comedy.
