I found this a rather sweet romantic comedy, and a pleasant break from the steady diet of horror thrillers which we have recently been fed at the press previews. The only thing which jarred was the (what I thought unnecessary) excess bad language, which did not always seem appropriate. The story is simple enough - girl meets boy, girl loses boy, boy loses girl, boy finds girl, and they all lived happily ever after, we suppose. The storyline follows the now-common cross-cultural twist, with a flirtatious and self-assured young American woman jetting over to Ireland to track down her boss's Irish roots, to help his election campaign. She eventually gets to the "right" village, after struggling with the local cockeyed pronunciations, and discovers that she has arrived at the worst possible time - the middle of a local "matchmaking" festival. There are even professional matchmakers who will fix you up with a suitable partner - for a fee. Due to the festival, she has trouble getting a room. I guess American travel agents don't understand the concept of booking accomdation before you leave America, or else they are so arrogant as to think that a hick village will gladly find space for a glamorous American woman. Anyway, after meeting her destiny while he was helping himself to her bath, she meets his father, who is a matchmaker, and he decides to fix his son up with this lovely young lady. On his own initiative, of course, and don't bother with the usual fee. After that the film follows the usual romantic plotline indicated above, with bits of nonsense and drama and comedy to pad out the time. In the end, the goodies get together, and the baddie gets his comeuppance. The moral of the story is that sometimes it helps if you can't sing!
