A story of conflicts, both comic and tragic, within several generations of a rather strange family in Reykjavík in the fifties. The family of matriarch Karolina, an eccentric old fortune teller and psychic, is bombarded with new influences -- American lovers, dollars, booze and rock'n'roll -- and fights for survival against all odds. There is romance for sons and daughters, family infighting and feuds, there are births and dramatic deaths. It is a story both thrilling and touching.
