The umpteenth (and, at 4 hours, the longest) film version of Shakespeare's second most famous tradegy. For those that don't know the story, the king of Denmark is murdered by his brother, who then takes the queen as his wife. Hamlet, the prince, is told of this by his father's ghost, but naturally finds it hard to believe. So he tries his own detective tricks to discover the truth, including pretending to be slightly mad. This drives his girlfriend to suicide, which only makes him even more depressed. The truth eventually comes out in the dramatic and bloody finale.
Hamlet is probably the most-quoted of all of Shakespeare's works.
